JAKARTA – The Ministry of Transportation has not made a counter-application for online transportation as it was circulated several times ago. They ensure that they will not make an online transportation application against Go-Jek and Grab. Because, the Ministry of Transportation only regulates it and is not an applicator of online taxis.

Here are some facts that failed online transportation applications in action, summarized by Okezone, Friday (9/21/2018).

  • The Government Is Only A Regulator

Director General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, Budi Setyadi, said that currently the government’s position is only as a regulator of an application-based transportation company. So it is not ethical if the government mixes the mixture between the regulator and the applicator into one part. After all, according to him, from the start, there was absolutely no intention to build the application. But only focus on building regulations.

“Until now, the government as a regulator and I do not want to mix up regulators and applicators,” he said at a press conference at the Ministry of Transportation Office, Jakarta, Thursday (09/20/2018).

  • Business entities and the private sector are invited to act as applicators

Budi claimed he did not forbid, if there were parties (Business Entities) who wanted to provide new online transportation applications as a match for Grab and Gojek. It’s just that in this case, the Ministry of Transportation cannot intervene to become part of the applicator.

“As a regulator composes its regulations and please business entities and the private sector to provide applications. It is impossible for the government to become an applicator, even if there is a private business entity affiliated with employees right now, please,” he explained.

However, the business entity concerned must continue to follow regulations made by the government. At present the rules regarding online taxis are being returned to the Supreme Court.

“So until now, even if there are business entities and private sector companies, please act on an applicator who certainly must follow regulations that are being refined,” he explained.

  • Telkom Ready to Create Online Transportation Application

Regarding the possibility of Telkom making an application to rival Gojek and Grab, Budi welcomed the proposal. In fact, not only Telkom, anyone interested in the business, please register with the regulator in this case the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo).

“Anyone can be an applicator, not only Telkom, we also accept other parties’ exposure to application business opportunities. So please Telkom if you feel attractive and other legal entities and of course the list is at the Ministry of Communication and Information as a regulator,” he explained.

  • Proposed Establishment of Online Red Plate Transportation Originating from the Alliance

Director General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Budi Setyadi, said that the initial proposal for the establishment of online red plate transportation applications came from the alliance. In the hope that they will get more income if online red plate transportation applications are made.

“So there is no more clarification of the government about the red plate. It comes from an alliance which essentially wants to improve income,” he said at a press conference at the Ministry of Transportation Office, Jakarta, Thursday (09/20/2018).

  • Drivers start Loss

Budi explained, the drivers of online taxis claimed that their income had begun to erode compared to the earlier surfaces. Because, the more days the number of registered drivers in both Go-Jek and Grab is increasing.

In addition, continued Budi, the online taxi drivers also later began to object to the tariff policies of each applicator company. Because, the rates set by Go-Jek and Grab no longer benefit them.

“Then there are several times the applicator’s actions are about tariffs and it seems that they have no longer been profitable and are discussing government-owned applicators,” he explained.

  • Expectation of Red Plate Online Transportation from Gojek & Grab Drivers

Starting from the anxiety, they also hoped that the government could make a rival online transportation application, aka online red plate taxi. Therefore there is an issue if the Ministry of Transportation intends to make an online transportation application against Gojek and Grab Cs managed by the government.

“So there is no longer a red plate applicator, it does not exist in the sense that the government or the Ministry of Transportation is building an application that is said to be a red plate. I say so that the government does not build its own applicator,” he explained.
