Jakarta – Grab has revived its non-cash payment method, GrabPay credits, after suspended animation from top up frozen by Bank Indonesia. Speaking of payment using GrabPay credits, will there be any difference with the cash method?
The question was answered by Managing Director of Grab Indonesia Ridzki Kramadibrata on the sidelines of ‘Grab To Mitra’ event at Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE), BSD, Tangerang.
Delivered, GrabPay credits it is actually one way of payment method only. If, the paying customer in cash or GrabPay credits is a method for payment when using the services of Grab.
“If it is cheap or not depends on the program, if we give promo program to GrabPay credits it could happen, but this is the payment method chosen by the customer,” said Ridzki.
As is known, GrabPay credits top up service was frozen by Bank Indonesia in October. That is because the service has not pocketed permission to hold electronic money services.
However, the prohibition from BI is not to affect the nominal balance of GrabPay that already owned by the public. Those who still have a GrabPay balance can still wear them.
Currently, GrabPay is recovering from its dead after Grab has partnered with OVO to operate the non-cash payment service. Grab’s interest is because OVO has an e-money service license from Bank Indonesia under PT Visionet Internasional.
The partnership of both parties agrees that GrabPay, a non-cash feature in the Grab application, co-branding with OVO and has been renamed (rebrand) as ‘GrabPay, powered by OVO’.
“Starting today, Grab passengers can fill in their GrabPay Credits and use ‘GrabPay, powered by OVO’ to pay for their trips booked with the Grab app,” Jason Thompson, Managing Director, GrabPay Southeast Asia. (fyk / rou)
