The car and motorbike services based on the application, Grab, Monday (21/3/2016), announced that it has established a strategic partnership with Lippo Group as the owner of MatahariMall e-commerce services.

Based on the written statement received by KompasTekno, Grab will provide transportation and shipping services to improve online-offline services from MatahariMall.

To Tech In Asia, Lippo Group Director John Riady also revealed that Lippo is one of the investors in Venturra Capital (VC) who invested in Grab from the beginning. VC investment value, in this case Lippo Group is in it, amounting to 100 million US dollars (about Rp 1.3 trillion).

However, John did not mention the value of Lippo Group’s investment in the VC.

This investment was previously kept secret, possibly related to the status of Grab which has not been clear, until recently confirmed through the necessity of forming a cooperative.

In Indonesia, Grab operates three different types of services: taxis (GrabTaxi), rental cars (GrabCar), and motorcycle taxis (GrabBike).

The GrabCar service competes with similar service providers, UberX. Meanwhile, GrabBike service is a heavy rival of Go-Jek.

Grab claims that GrabCar and GrabBike have acquired more than 50 percent market share in their respective segments.

KompasTekno has contacted the Grab related to this news. However, they are not ready to comment.
