, BATAM – The arrangement of taxi-based application operations or online taxis in Batam has again been adjusted.

Online taxis only focus on taking passengers in residential areas and on the roadside only.

Online taxis are prohibited from taking passengers in the base taxi area.

The arrangement was the result of a meeting between the Riau Islands Transportation Agency and parties related to transportation in Batam, Tuesday (9/25/2018) at Graha Kepri.

The meeting was a follow-up to the revocation of Minister of Transportation No. 108 of 2017 concerning special rental vehicles by the Supreme Court (MA) on 12 September 2018.

During the two-hour meeting, Head of Transportation Department of Riau Islands Jamhur Ismail said the meeting was going cold without further debate.

All parties agree on decisions taken together. In contrast to the conditions of previous meetings which often took place in heated debates.

“In the past, each party lived what they wanted. However, now all parties have agreed,” Jamhur told the Tribune.

One of the most crucial agreements is that application-based taxi drivers only focus on taking passengers in residential areas and on the roadside only.

They were determined not to take passengers near a conventional taxi stand.

They can only take passengers to airports and ports.

However, it does not take passengers from places that have been occupied by conventional taxi drivers.

“They are pursuing this agreement to avoid conflict. Moreover, we want to enter the presidential election,” Jamhur explained.

In the meeting there was also an agreement on transportation rules again referring to Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning road transport traffic.

While waiting for Permenhub 108, each party, both online taxis and conventional taxis, can maintain each other’s conditions while in the field.
