JAKARTA – Jakarta Transportation Agency Head Syafrin Liputo revealed
that the installation of special stickers as markers for online taxi vehicles cannot be done.

The reason is, according to Syafrin, the Supreme Court (MA) always rejects the arrangement proposed by the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) regarding the markers.

“The highest legal position is in the Supreme Court. That is, if the governor regulates the marking it is contrary to that,” said Syafrin at the Central Jakarta DPRD Building, Thursday (8/22/2019).

Syafrin also explained that the marking was not possible because in the Minister of Transportation Regulation 118 of 2018 regarding the Implementation of Special Rent Transportation does not mention that there are special arrangements for online taxis.

“In the regulation of the minister of transportation there is no marking, and even more if the governor makes regulations on the marking, right? Logically the law is like that,” he explained.

Syafrin further stated that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government was looking for the best solution with related parties, such as the Director General of Land Transportation and the Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) regarding this matter.

“We hope there is a good way out,” said Syafrin.

But some time ago, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan suggested that online taxis be labeled as markers to be free from even odd numbers on 25 roads in the capital city of Jakarta.

“At the moment the Transportation Office with Grab is talking about marking so that vehicles that work as transportation will have a sign, at this time (online taxis) there is no sign yet,” Anies said.
