TEMPO.CO , Jakarta – The transportation service applicator company, Grab, added features of a post-robbery emergency and passenger harassment in an online taxi .

This was done by Grab after one of his passengers, SS, 24, was victimized by robbery and harassment by Ledi alias Alung, 27, who claimed to be a GrabCar driver.

“Through this feature, passengers who see a dangerous situation when riding an online motorcycle taxi or taxi can be directly connected with their friends or relatives,” said Grab Indonesia Marketing Director Mediko Azwar in a written statement on Sunday, April 29 2018.

The plan, the emergency feature was launched next week. But passengers can use it now.

Previously, West Jakarta Police Chief Senior Commissioner Hengki Haryadie appealed to all onlinetransportation application companies to install an SOS or emergency call code. Police suggested the system after crimes and violence against taxi passengers online continued.

Mediko hopes that with this feature, passengers will feel safer while on the way. Passengers just press the alarm button at the top of the phone screen.

The button appears during the trip with Grab. When passengers use the feature, the Grab service center will send a message to the emergency contact number, which the passenger previously selected.

Before using the emergency feature , passengers must first save the emergency contact number. According to Mediko, this feature allows storing more than one emergency contact. “There can be up to three contact numbers,” he said.
